MPCT Learner progress spotlight

Mr Oliver Fellows a Learner from MPCT Wolverhampton has certainly made an impact on Lead Training Instructor Staff Seal. So much so, Staff Seal  contacted Head Office to share his achievements.

Oliver Fellows is 18 years old, started at MPCT Wolverhampton 3rd July 17 and his career aspirations are to join the Royal Engineers.

My Background

I was born in Wolverhampton and I have lived here my entire life, I’ve always wanted to become a soldier in the Army since I was a kid and as I grew up I realised how much of a great career it could be but I didn’t reach the fitness or weight standards to join up after school so I was recommended to join MPCT to Help me reach my health and fitness goals to achieve my dream of becoming a soldier.

How has MPCT changed my life

When I first joined MPCT I wasn’t too active, I Weighed 17.5st and completed my first 1.5 run in 25 minutes, My routine at college was entirely different to what I did in school, the daily PT at first was a bit of shock but over my time at the college I’ve improved a lot as a person, I’m much more active and with the help of the Staff and my own determination I’ve gotten my weight down to 13.5st and passed my selection with a 1.2 run time of 9:47 and I’m set to start my phase 1 training in March 2020.

MPCT has had a great positive impact on my daily life, My confidence has increased greatly to a point where I can deliver my Ice breaker without trouble in front of a large amount of people, My diet has turned into a much healthier diet than it was and it has also helped me improve my self-discipline I’m a lot less lazier than I was and I take better care of myself and my belongings and I’m now more capable of handling responsibility and taking on things by myself

My fitness since I joined has improved massively, and I partake in a lot more physical activities outside of college, I go to the gym 3-4 times a week on some days after college and the weekend and I thoroughly enjoy the challenges I face when on PT as overcoming them is one of the best feelings.

Overall I doubt I would be where I am today if I hadn’t joined MPCT Wolverhampton and am very grateful to the Staff that have helped me at my time here at the College.

How contact with MPCT staff has helped me achieve my goals

The staff here at MPCT Wolverhampton have helped me so much to get me to where I am today, when I first joined I wasn’t very confident and I didn’t have much motivation but the Staff helped boost my confidence and motivate me to Improve my fitness and my health to eventually have me start my application for the Army and finally pass my Selection, without the help of the Staff here at the college pushing me to improve my diet and fitness I wouldn’t have gotten where I am today, they helped me stay on the right path and to remain dedicated and determined to achieve my goals.

Qualifications achieved at MPCT

Employability Skills Level 2, Intro Award, Award, Certificate, Ext. Certificate

My future plans

In the future I hope to complete my training and pass out as a fully-fledged Royal engineer. I plan to stay in the Army around 8-10 years or more depending on my situation at the time, I hope to travel to many different places during my time serving. Currently I plan to maintain my fitness and continue to lose more weight while waiting to start my Phase 1 training.

What would you say to somebody to recommend MPCT?

If someone I knew was aspiring to join the Armed Forces I would most definitely recommend MPCT, I would tell them that the college would greatly help them in their application process and future career. With the improvements in fitness and military knowledge that would give them a head start in training, the things you are taught here at the college such as admin and self-discipline will really help you prepare for the start of your military career.

Congratulation Mr Fellows. We wish you all the very best for your phase 1 training in March 2020, please let us know how you progress.
